About the Department
Where Numbers Meet Ethics and Excellence
The Department of Accounting began as one of the three programmes under the Department of Business Studies when academic activities commenced at Adamawa State University during the 2002/2003 academic session. In line with the University’s vision to enhance the growth and specialization of individual programmes, a distinct Department of Accountancy was established in the 2003/2004 academic session. This was later renamed the Department of Accounting. The Department is fully accredited by both the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). Initially, the Department offered undergraduate programmes in Accounting and Taxation. However, in 2023/2024 academic session, the Taxation programme was separated to form an independent Department of Taxation. Currently, the Department of Accounting offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The undergraduate programme leads to the award of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Hons) degree in accounting. At the postgraduate level, the Department offers the Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting, Master’s in Tax and Revenue Administration, Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Accounting, Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Accounting and Finance, and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Accounting and Finance.
