Welcome Message from the Head of Department
Zoology is one of the most stimulating subjects a University student encounters. Nothing else, after all, has such immediate relevance as the study of life, which sheds light on what every individual experiences in himself and observes around (W. T. Keeton). So, come and join us in the study of life. The Department of Zoology offers you a wide area of courses leading to many respected professional careers.
The Department offers B.Sc. Zoology degree programme and the duration of the programme is four (4) academic sessions and three (3) academic sessions for University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry students respectively, as required by the National Universities Commission (NUC). The Department also offers PGD in Bee Keeping, Ph.D and MSc. Applied Parasitology, Ph.D and MSc. Applied Entomology.
The philosophy of the B.Sc. Zoology programme is to provide young but qualified secondary school leavers with good discipline, knowledge and sound understanding of the concepts and methodologies of Zoology in key areas that meet the needs of society. The programme is expected to prepare graduates for further specialize career training at Master’s degree level in any University, Research Institutes, and enhancing manpower generation as well as produce disciplined citizens for National development. It is hoped that training of our young school leavers here in Adamawa State University, Mubi will reduce the cost of maintenance and transportation to other far-off institutions. In addition, the programme will produce graduates who will be gainfully employed and provide foundation for students who intend to pursue specialization in Zoology, and also have the ability to apply knowledge and skills to solving theoretical and practical problems in Zoology in relation to national and societal needs.
The aim of Zoology programme is to broaden students’ understanding of Zoology concepts and application of the knowledge in solving problems. The students in the Department of Zoology will therefore be made to realize quite early that their intellectual growth and subsequent success in life is directly related to the depth of their command and use of knowledge acquired.
